Mobile CNG Utility Supply to Lift Natural Gas Service Moratorium
NYSEG | Mechanicville, NY | Municipalities & Utilities
XNG deployed a mobile CNG utility solution for NYSEG, enabling pressure support and lifting a service moratorium affecting 2,400 customers in Mechanicville, NY.
The Problem
Due to upstream pipeline constraints, a state-imposed moratorium prevented NYSEG from adding new natural gas customers in Mechanicville, NY. With demand rising across residential and commercial sectors, an interim solution was needed to support continued regional growth while maintaining safety and compliance. NYSEG sought a reliable, scalable, on demand solution energy source to enhance system capacity and serve new customers during this period.
The Solution
XNG designed and delivered a CNG decompression system reviewed and approved by the New York Public Service Commission, tied directly into NYSEG’s distribution network, supplying up to 100,000 SCF/hour. In Phase 1, CNG was injected during peak demand periods. In Phase 2, baseload gas was introduced to support new customer connections. The system included trailer-mounted storage, 24/7 logistics support, and compliance with NY PSC oversight.
- Seamless integration with NYSEG’s pressure regulation system
- Trailer inventory to support 24-hour peak usage
- Redundant supply and expansion capacity built in
