The Problem

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, a major healthcare facility in Lebanon, NH, had no access to a natural gas pipeline to meet its energy demands. The hospital relied on oil and diesel – costly and high-emission fuels stored in aging underground tanks with growing maintenance needs. Regulatory limits on annual heating oil use and rising sustainability efforts added pressure. As a critical healthcare facility, operational readiness was essential. A timely and compliant energy solution was needed.

The Solution

XNG engineered a mobile natural gas delivery system, including full system and site design with load determination based on connected burner and boiler capacities. The scope covered permitting and approvals, boiler conversions, and installation of a decompression skid to regulate pipeline pressures feeding the boilers. XNG sized onsite storage and pipeline delivery infrastructure to meet current peak hourly flow and future capacity needs. From heater procurement through commissioning, the system was operational in 20 weeks, delivering a scalable Virtual Pipeline™ solution for the healthcare institution.
